George Edward Hayo - 79 years old, died peacefully at Mercy Medical Center in Durango Colorado on November 23, 2013. George was born on November 2, 1934 in Los Angeles, California to George & Esther
Hayo. He was the oldest of two brothers - brother Philip Hayo still lives with his spouse, Georgina, in California. Married for 56 years to his loving wife Nixie (pre-deceased), he is survived by his three children, Michael, Kenneth (Desiree) & Michelle. His extended family also includes six grandchildren, Celeste (pre-deceased), Conor, Edward & Michael Hayo and Hank & Nolan Stowers. George graduated from San Diego High School, California Polytechnic Institute (Bachelor’s Degree) and Denver University (Master’s Degree). After marrying his wife, Nixie, they raised their three children over the years in California, Nebraska, Colorado,
Missouri and New York while he held jobs with several large firms. George was a very successful businessman which included teaching numerous seminars on manufacturing to over 10,000 attendees as well as writing many articles for several magazines. He eventually opened his own management consulting firm, Hayo Consultants, in New York and ran that for 20 years before retiring to Albuquerque, New Mexico in the 1990’s and finally to Durango, Colorado for the past several years. George had a zest for living and was active throughout his life. He spent a lot of time traveling the world while enlisted in the Navy as well as with his job and vacationing with his wife & family. He was an avid skin diver, loved to play golf, enjoyed sailing, ran many marathons including 4 in one year, was a good card player and was also a master gardener in his later years. He easily made friends, loved to tell jokes and made whomever he came in contact with a better person for having met or known him. The family will be holding a private service and very much appreciate all of the kind thoughts and stories shared by those who knew George. He lived a wonderful and enriched life.
