Obituary for
Eric Michael Haynie
Durango resident, Eric M. Haynie died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at his home with his wife at his side. He was 64.
Mr. Haynie was born to Elwood and Frances Haynie on May 7, 1949, in Colorado Springs. Eric spent his youth in Colorado Springs, and subsequently moved to Provo, Utah after graduating from high school. In Provo, he obtained a master’s degree in Genetics from Brigham Young University.
Over the course of the next 30 years Eric remained in Provo where he had two daughters and was well known for his free spirit and ability to make anyone laugh. While in Provo he taught at Brigham Young University in genetics, followed by a career at Warner Brothers Music. He later moved to Durango where he spent the last 15 years with his wife Hada and their fur child Colter.
An avid collector of Native American artifacts and Mountain Man, Eric had an intense love for the arts, with the strongest being his passion for Rock and Roll. He loved Taos, New Mexico; the Rolling Stones; the Denver Broncos; and to play the drums. He led a full life, cherishing his time spent painting and with his family and friends.
Eric was notorious for always being able to put a smile on anyone’s face. He was recognized as a loving, talented, and generous husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Mr. Haynie is survived by his wife, Hada Haynie, of Durango; daughters Ziggy (Haynie) McBride and Xani Haynie, Amanda White, and Randi Courtney, fur child Colter; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Latter Day Saint Chapel, 2 Hilltop Circle, Durango Colorado. A graveside service will be held at a later time at the Greenmont Cemetery.
