Obituary for
Ricky N. Hayes
Ricky Nelson Hayes died Saturday, February 25, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver, Colo. He was 31.
Mr. Hayes was born Nov. 24, 1980, in Ft. Carson, Colo., the son of Ira Hayes and Joan Olguin. Ricky attended schools in Cortez, Ignacio, and, most recently, Pueblo Community College in Durango. Ricky had a great interest in computers and wanted to learn all that he could about them. He enjoyed "hanging out" with his friends and his cousins, and his family fondly recalls that he was a great cook and made the best enchiladas. Watching sports was also a favorite pastime. He was a Kansas University basketball fan and followed the Oakland Raiders football team as well. He also respected and observed wildlife while he was living in Ignacio; he was especially interested in eagles.
He is survived by Joan Olguin (mother) of Ignacio, Ira H. Hayes (father) of Towaoc, Colo., Aaron Hayes (brother) of Ignacio, Wyatt Hayes (brother) of Denver, Marlene Hayes (sister) of Ignacio, Garnet Olguin (grandmother) of Ignacio, Sabrina Black (niece) of Ignacio, Christopher Hayes (nephew) of Denver, Tristyn Price (nephew) of Ignacio, Carlita Armstrong (former wife) and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother Kennith Black, his grandparents Gus and Maxine Hayes, and his grandfather Joe Olguin.
A viewing will take place from 5-6 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, at Hood Mortuary Chapel in Durango. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday after the viewing at Hood Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio. Father Douglas Hunt of St. Ignatius Catholic Church will be officiating. Burial will occur at Ignacio West Cemetery in Ignacio.
