Donna Jean Montonati Harper went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 20, 2015.
Donna was a lover of life, a lover of family and friends, and a lover of adventure. She went nowhere alone, but was surrounded by people and grand places. Donna was life and she lived it well.
Donna Jean Montonati was born in Durango on April 26, 1941 to John and Concetta Montonati. She lived her entire life in Durango and knew no strangers. She worked as a beautician at the Strater Hotel, Catchpole Salon, and purchased Mary Ann’s Beauty Den from her cousin Mary Ann, and loved running that shop. It was the local hangout for many. Sometimes, people who were there to visit, had to move out of dryer chairs so those getting their hair done could do so.
Donna was a natural athlete and played on many recreational leagues, including softball, volleyball, flag-football, and she excelled at bowling. But Donna’s real love were the mountains
where she took countless people on horse-back riding, hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, mushrooming, and picnicking adventures. Donna was a gracious and generous humanitarian, who gave to many people and worthy causes.
Donna is survived by her husband, Daniel B. Harper; brother Frank and wife Caprice Montonati;
daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Tim Jantz, son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Laura Hensley; grandsons Nico and Jared Hensley, granddaughter Stormy, husband Jeremy and sons Kanaan and River Garlington; granddaughter Nika, husband Chester and children Ayden and Kendahl Brandt; granddaughter Kayla and husband Sabin Burrell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life for Donna at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 910 E. 3rd Avenue, Durango, Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 11:00 am, with reception to follow. Please wear your bright colors in honor of her colorful personality. Interment at Greenmount Cemetery.
