Jennifer Lyn "Jenny" Hancock
Jennifer Lyn “Jenny” Hancock, 40, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in Durango, Colorado. A celebration of life will be held in the Pullman Room at the Strater Hotel on Saturday, April 19, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Jenny was born August 31, 1973 in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Tom Hancock and Debbe Speck. She lived in Dallas until the age of 3 years old. The family then moved to Montrose, Colo. She began skiing at the age of 4 and enjoyed skiing throughout her life. She attended Montrose schools until 3rd Grade. The family moved to Durango in 1981. In the 5th Grade, Jenny won our regional spelling bee and represented Durango at the State Spelling Bee in Denver. She was involved in the school track team and graduated from Durango High School in 1991.
While in high school, Jenny began working at Lori’s Family Restaurant where she enjoyed working for years. Jenny also worked at both CJ’s Diner locations. Most recently, she was a skilled blackjack dealer at the Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio.
Jenny was born in Texas, but she always considered Colorado her home and was a “Durangotang” for 33 years.
Jenny enjoyed playing pool and was active in local leagues. She loved the high desert southwest, especially Lake Powell and Southeastern Utah. She enjoyed finding artifacts and archeological pieces. She enjoyed puzzles and brain teasers and her cat, Lexi, who was her roommate and companion.
Jenny participated in the Durango Snowdown festivities and notably won first place in her first women’s arm wrestling competition.
Jenny showed love through her sense of humor and her ability to “razz” her friends.
She lives on in the hearts of her father Tom, her mother Debbe, Step-father, Eric, her extended family, and close friends which she truly regarded as family.
Please send contributions in lieu of flowers to the La Plata County Humane Society.
