Obituary for
Rae E. Hamilton
Rae Elinor Hamilton, 63, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2011, at her home in Durango. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at 10:00 A.M. at Hood Mortuary Chapel.
Rae was born in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Richard and Irene McGrew, but grew up in and attended schools in Pocatello, Idaho. She graduated from Highland High School in Pocatello. She attended Idaho State University and graduated in 1970 with a BS degree in nursing. She then on to earn a MS in Health Care Administration. She joined the U. S. Army and was in active and reserve duty for 21 years. She was stationed in an array of places, including Vietnam, Denver, El Paso and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm.
In 1987, she met Dale T. Harris and they were married in 1988 in El Paso. Rae retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1991, and she and Dale lived in Houston before moving to Durango in 1999. She was a member of the Sierra Club of El Paso, Texas, and was a dedicated member of the American Heart Association. She loved wildlife and the grandeur of the mountains.
She is survived by Dale Harris (husband) of Durango; Irene McGrew (mother) of Bend, Ore.; Kerry Hobe (sister) of Fresno, Calif.; Pamela McGrew (sister) of Bend, Ore., and nieces Lisa Kjeseth, Laura DiRito, Tammy Harris, Xandra Hobe and Sara Hobe, as well as one nephew, Christopher DiRito.
She was preceded in death by her father.
