James “Jim” Thomas Halliday was born on August 2, 1930 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduating high school, Jim joined the Marine Corps. He spent 4 years in the Marines with combat tour in Korea. He then attended college and joined the United States Air Force. He became commissioned and got wings as a navigator. During his time in the USAF he had many flying assignments and ground jobs, picking up an MBA along the way. After retiring from the USAF 1976 he then went into business for himself. Then in 1994 sold the business and moved to Pagosa Springs, Colorado.
Jim married in 1957, which yielded four sons and one daughter. His marriage ended in 1986 and he moved from Camarillo, California to Walnut Creek, California, where he ran his business.
After moving to Pagosa Springs he met Joanne in church. They were casual friends for a while then started dating and married in April 1998.
Since fully retiring in 1994, he has done volunteer work and led mountain trips in the Rockies, the Sierra in California and Yosemite National Park. His life of 84 years was a ball!
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Haliday, four sons: Keith, Lance and Deborah, Mark and Jennifer, and Tom, and a daughter: Laura and Randy Johnson; A twin brother: John; 8 Grandchildren; Step children: Steve and Lixin Tothe and Patty Marinos; 4 Step-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Community United Methodist Church, 434 Lewis Street, Pagosa Springs, Colorado, on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 3 p.m.
