Obituary for
Vincent Haffey
Vincent Cornelius Haffey, passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2014, he was 64 years old. The son of Joseph and Josephine Haffey, owners and operators of Haffey’s store in Durango. Both of his parents preceded him in death.
Vince is best remembered as a young clerk in the family business, a skilled fisherman and a fabulous drummer. Vince played behind many local musicians as well as musicians he toured with during the 1960’s and early 1970’s. Most notably, he was a member of the Dean Davis Trio in his late teens and early twenties. His contributions to the band can be heard on the Trio’s recorded albums.
His only sibling, Karen Mischke of Cortez, Co. her husband Jim, his nephew, Josh of Denver and his niece, Gabrielle of Cortez survive him. Vince initiated college funds for both his niece and nephew to help them in achieving their dreams. He was a loving uncle to both Josh and Gabrielle and inquired daily about their welfare. They remember him for his uniqueness, hearty sense of humor, and for his love of music and fishing. The family joke was that anyone could be fishing right next to Vince experiencing no luck with Vince having caught his limit in no time at all.
There will be a graveside service at Greenmount Cemetery on Saturday, April 19, at 1:00 p.m., Chaplain Earl Caudill will officiate. Hood Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent in Vince’s name to the Bridge Emergency Shelter, P O BOX 56, Cortez, CO., 81321.
