Charles "Charlie" R. Guarino
On July 4, 2017, Charles Guarino, 72, of Durango, died at Mercy Regional Medical Center due to a heart attack. Charlie was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 11, 1945 to Frank and Rose Guarino. He graduated from City College of NY with a Masters in Electrical Engineering and from Virginia Tech with a Masters in System Engineering. The majority of his career was spent in the field of Digital Signal Processing for various defense contractors. He married Ruth Bierkamper in Flanders, NJ on November 20, 1971. Their daughter, Amanda
Jean, was born on November 21, 1985 in Frederick, MD.
Charlie retired from Lockheed Martin Corp. in May 2007 and moved to Durango, where he spent the last ten years enjoying all of the cultural and outdoor activities the area provides. He was an avid lifelong reader and learner with an interest in science and history.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth Guarino of Durango, his daughter Amanda Guarino, son-in-law Jason Satter, and beloved granddaughters Heidi Ruth Satter and Aspen Charlie Satter, all of Petaluma, CA. He is also survived by his three sisters, Joanne Migoya (Javier) of Mexico, Rosemarie Pedullo (Michael) and Cira Morgillo (Robert) of New York and one brother, Frank Guarino of Florida.
Private services will be held when the family gathers later this month.
