Orlando Alex Griego passed away peacefully Thursday, October 29, 2015, at his home surrounded by family. He was 89 years old.
Orlando was born August 21, 1926, to Joe Victor Griego and Matilda Talamante in Edith, CO. He served proudly in the U.S. Army and was a combat veteran in the Korean War.
Orlando met the love of his life Rachel Gallegos in 1953 and they married a year later in Pagosa Springs. They then moved to Henderson, NV. Orlando worked as a Lathe operator. In 1958 they moved back to Durango and raised their family of 4 children. He started many notable businesses including Griego's Lock and Key and Griego's Restaurant. Orlando remained humble throughout his life.
Orlando enjoyed working and taking care of his family. He was a member of the American Legion and the Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Rachel Griego, daughters MaryLou Griego, Sandra Griego, Debbie Griego, son Michael Griego, 9 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and his nephew Phil Griego.
A rosary will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 2, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
