Obituary for
Linda Rose Greenberg
Durango resident, Linda Rose Greenberg, died in her home on February 25, 2013 of breast cancer after a long struggle with the disease that lasted more than 20 years. Linda was born in Roswell, New Mexico on May 1, 1951 to Harry Holder and Rita Hodgkinson. Linda was an accomplished artist in a variety of media including watercolor, acrylics, and jewelry. She was raised in a military family, and as a young girl she lived for 6 years in Japan and Germany. Later she lived in Virginia and Texas, graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 1972 with a Bachelor’s degree in art. Linda and Redge moved to Durango 13 years ago. Much of her art was inspired by the beauty of the Four Corners area. She also enjoyed painting seasonal themes on the windows of downtown businesses. She was a member of the Durango Gem and Mineral Club for several years where she began hand-crafting beautiful jewelry. In her spare time, she was an avid reader and an accomplished Scrabble player. She and her husband loved to travel, and recent trips included Japan, Antarctica, the Arctic, and a visit to Disney World with the extended family. Her kindness and compassion for all people and animals defined her relationships. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 40 years, Redge Greenberg, her 2 children, Tiffany Purcell and Aaron Greenberg of Durango, her father Harry, 4 sisters (Donna Beery, Sherry Phillips, Pam Holder, and Darla Buehler) and 2 grandchildren. Her love for family and friends, returned in kind, brought her great joy and happiness during the latter part of her illness. A celebration of life for friends and family will take place at Kennebec Café on Saturday March 9th, 2013 from 3pm-5pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Linda’s name to Mercy Health Foundation: Mercy Breast Care Center or Hospice of Mercy.
