Grace Free Mayo

September 23, 1934 — November 28, 2024

Hesperus

On September 23rd, 1934, Grace was born in Abilene, TX. To Henry Lee and Clyde Summers. She and her four sisters were raised on a small ranch in Pietown, NM. Grace married John Mayo on October 26th, 1957. They had two daughters, Melanie and Martha.

Grace made any place that she lived feel like home, and anyone that came to her home was given a cup of coffee and offered a meal. She was a partner with her husband John, working right alongside him on their farm. She was devoted to her daughters and always wanted them with her.

In 1980, she started her career. She worked at Eventide Nursing Home, Community Hospital, and San Juan Basin health Department, where she retired in 2004.

Grace was a wonderful wife, loving mother and Grandmother. She loved to go anywhere that Melanie went. She was happiest when she was working and seeing a task completed. She loved the Lord with a simple and strong faith.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four sisters. She is survived by her daughters Martha (Nick) Schmitt and Melanie (Jim) Douglas, 14 grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren, and 2 great greatgrandchildren. Grace will be missed by family and many life-long friends.

Her service will be held at Breen Community Building on December 14th at 11:00am with a potluck to follow.
