Fred Gonzales

Fred Cipriano Gonzales, 80 passed away peacefully Monday October 5th at Mercy Medical Center in Durango, Colorado. Fred's final days were filled with laughter and courage in the presence of his loved ones.
Fred was born, the third child of Jake and Helen Gonzales in Monte Vista, CO in 1935. He attended Monte Vista High School and went on to a successful career in meat cutting.
Fred's life was filled with many joys. He loved music, dancing, the color pink, fishing, camping, a good bowl of cherry tomatoes, taking care of animals and a good joke. But most of all, Fred loved his family.
Fred is preceded in death by his brothers Jake Gonzales, Joe Gonzales, Charles Gonzales and his sister Marie Gonzales. He is survived by his siblings Vera Cardenas, Dorothy Lopez, Donny Gonzales, Rae Leon and Gerald Gonzales. In 1960, Fred married Mary and had five children: Barbara Esquibel, Phil Gonzales, Freda Gonzales, Marcia Puga and Bobbie Salvador. Fred's legacy also lives on in his thirteen loving grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Fred leaves behind many close friends including his companion Leona Red-Pinnecoose.
A rosary service will be held on Thursday October 8th at 6pm at St. Ignatius Church in Ignacio. A funeral service will take place at 10 am on Friday October 9th at St. Ignatius Church in Ignacio, CO.
