Obituary for Tonita "Toni" Gomez
Former Durango resident Tonita Gomez died Friday, May 30, 2014, in Pueblo. She was 79.
Known as “Toni,” she was born to Ignacio and Quirina Martinez on Oct. 12, 1934, in Pagosa Springs. She grew up in Durango and Waterflow, New Mexico, graduating from high school there in the early 1950s.
On Oct. 27, 1955, she married Guillermo “Phil” Gomez in Durango.
Toni dedicated her life to raising her family and she was a faithful and dedicated Catholic.
In her spare time, Mrs. Gomez enjoyed gardening, feeding birds and just “enjoyed life," and enjyed her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gomez is survived by her husband, Guillermo “Phil” Gomez, of Pueblo; children Patricia Cone of Colorado Springs, Rhonda Holcomb of Pueblo, Cheryl Gomez of Houston and Tom Gomez of Atlanta; brothers Joseph Martinez and Abel Martinez, both of Durango, and Orlando Martinez of Pueblo; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
