Damian Dean Gomez beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend to many passed away suddenly on April 10, 2022, at the age of 60.
Damian was born on October 11, 1961, in Denver, Colorado to James and Martha Gomez. He grew up alongside his sisters Diana and Judy Gomez and many loving family & friends in Durango, Colorado. He loved playing sports, baseball, tennis, riding bikes and fishing. He was a Denver Rockies, Broncos, and Avalanche fan.
He married his Junior High sweetheart, Betty Ann Gomez the summer of 1980 and enlisted in the US Navy. They were married 34 years, when cancer took her away March 12, 2015. Together they had two children Damian Adam Gomez born Dec. 12, 1981, who followed in his dads’ footsteps into the Navy, and Dianne Cecilia Becerra Dec. 14, 1982. Damian began his career in the US Navy as an Air Traffic Controller. He was well respected and known to be a friend and mentor to all. He loved serving his country, military life, the sea, and aviation. Together with his family he traveled and lived in several duty stations. He had a big heart and would help anyone in need, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and was a devout Catholic. Damian retired an accomplished and well respected LT. Commander after serving 28 honorable years.
Together Damian and Betty retired in Fort Worth, Texas to be close to their daughter and grandson Angel. He worked as an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA for several years retiring in 2016. He loved laughing, attending sporting events, road trips and spending time with family. Often attending his grandsons sporting events and time with his son Damian and family. A Proud father and grandpa “Pappa”. He was a great father and an even greater grandpa.
He met Sonia Gonzales and remarried Aug 27. 2020
Damian was loved beyond measure and will be missed always. He was a great example of leadership, fairness, and generosity to all who knew him. We will miss his laughter, his stories, and the man he was to us all. We thank God for the time we had with him and will continue his legacy.
He is predeceased by his sister Diana Gomez, and wife Betty Ann Gomez.
He is survived by his parents, James and Martha Gomez; Wife Sonia Gomez; Sister and brother in-law, Judy and Zane Vagneur; Son and Daughter in-law Damian and Ana Gomez and grandsons Sebastian and Nico; daughter and son in-law, Dianne and Roman Becerra and grandchildren, Angel and Mariah; stepdaughter and son-in-law Michelle and Michael Mitchel and their son, Gabriel; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Services will be held in his hometown, Durango, Colorado on Thursday April 28, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 9:30 am Rosary and 10:00 am Mass, with burial to follow at Greenmount Cemetery.
