Obituary for
Jeraldine S. Golden
Jeraldine S. Golden died Saturday, June 4, 2011, in Durango, Colo., as the result of complications from a fall at her home. She was 89. She had lived in Durango for 23 years.
Jeraldine was born April 1, 1922, in Big Flat, Ark., the daughter of Wilburn and Leona Scroggins. In 1940 after she graduated from high school in Oklahoma, she married Rathburne E. Evans. They had three children. After they divorced, she worked as a dietitian at the Elk City Hospital in Elk City Oklahoma. She was a caregiver for the elderly for many years in Elk City and in Durango.
Jeraldine was an avid reader and Christmas-stocking maker. She was a gifted poet whose poetry was published in a magazine. Her family remembers that she was wonderful cook. She was a member of Church of Christ in Durango.
She was preceded in death by her son Jerrel Rex Evans. She is survived by daughters Margaret Fern Ferguson of Durango, and Mary Karen Evans of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; sister Sue Scroggins Frisbee of Louisiana; brother Fred Manuel Lay of California; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Church of Christ in Durango. Guy Orbison, Jr. will officiate.
