Obituary for Florence Elaine "Elaine" Gold

Elaine Gold, 71, died Saturday, October 04, 2014 in Durango, Colorado. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 1:30 P.M. at the Allison Grange Hall.
Elaine was born May 4, 1943 in Falfa, Colorado, the daughter of Howard and Florence Self. She attended school in Ignacio, Colo. She married Perry Palmer on February 4, 1957. They raised their family in southern Colorado and eastern Utah, moving back to Durango in 1963. Perry and Elaine were divorced in 1971. Elaine attended San Juan College and moved to Dillingham, Alaska, and then to Bellingham, Wash, were she obtained her Master’s Degree in Wetland Management. She retired in the late 2000’s and moved to Illawco, Washington. In 2011 she moved to La Boca, NM, where she lived until her passing. Also in 2011, one of Elaine’s sons, Sheldon, passed – and this influenced her life greatly.
Among other highlights of her life, Elaine has also lived in Washington, D.C., Billings, Mont., and Aztec, N.M.
Elaine produced custom jewelry, was interested and researched Native American traditions, practiced naturopathic home remedies and ways. Elaine had a kind heart towards animals and treasured her family and sons.
She is survived by her sons: Shan Palmer of Ignacio, Colo., and Denton Palmer of Grand Junction, Colo.; Siblings: Charles Self of Middle Mesa, N.M., Rose Smith of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and LeRoy Self of Middle Mesa; Grandchildren: Shasta Palmer and Rodney Palmer of Atascadero, Calif., and Victoria Randles of DeRidder, Louisiana, 2 great-grandsons, 1 future great-grandson, 1 future great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
