Obituary for
Beverly Jean Glover
Beverly Jean Glover (Dahlstrom) age 85 of Durango died surrounded by family at home Sunday, September 14, 2014 from complications of Alzheimer’s.
Mrs. Glover was born in Whitehall, Michigan on July 8th, 1929. She attended school in Whitehall graduating from high school in 1947. From there she attended and graduated from Michigan State University. She later received her Masters from UNC in Greeley, Colorado. Married in November of 1951 she leaves behind husband Philip Glover also of Durango. She taught in public schools for 40 years before retiring to begin teaching at Fort Lewis College in 1989. She taught there for ten years before retiring again.
Mrs. Glover enjoyed family and friends throughout her life and in particular her two grandchildren Andy and Nicole Glover. Though she had sewn her entire life after retiring she became a master quilter and was awarded ribbons at the fair for some of her many quilts. She was an active member of the La Plata County Quilters Guild. Family and people who knew her were amazed that someone born on the family farm during the Depression and whose first teaching assignment was in a one room school house became the person who eventually taught at the college level. To her family she was best known for her composure and her ethic of always putting the comfort of others as her top priority. In the end, even with late stage Alzheimer’s she still felt the need to cook and host for family and for her incredible group of caregivers.
She is survived by her husband Philip of Durango, children John Glover and his wife Michele of Durango and Grant Glover of Flora Vista, New Mexico. In addition survivors include grandchildren Nicole Glover of Denver and Andy Glover of Durango.
Per Beverly’s request, there will be no services and a private family memorial will be held. She will be interred at the family grave in Michigan. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions could be made to the charity of your choice.
