Obituary for
Stanley W. Gill
Stanley Wayne Gill died Monday, March 5, 2012, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango. He was 73.
Stan was born March 28, 1938, in Canon City, Colo., son of Wayne and Bertha Gill. He was raised in McCloud, Calif., where he attended school and graduated from McCloud High School in 1956. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army and later worked for the U.S. Forest Service and the Los Angeles Times. Owner of Mac's liquor store in Durango, Stan was known as "Mac" to many of his customers.
Stan loved being outdoors -- fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, and playing golf. He liked to take his dogs for rides in his truck and then always made sure they got a good walk afterwards. Stan got his pilot's license in the 1980's, and he enjoyed piloting small planes recreationally. He was proud of his two daughters and supported them in everything they did.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne Adair Gill and Bertha Coy Gill. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Kay Gill, of Durango; daughters Heather Eileen (Gill) Esterday of Fort Collins, Colo., and Stephanie Nicole Gill of Durango, son-in-law, William Shawn Esterday, of Fort Collins; grandsons Bennett Liam Esterday and Zane Isaac Esterday of Fort Collins; and sister, Carole Robinett, of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho.
Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango. A memorial service will take place in Douglas, Wyoming, this summer. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Mercy, 1 Mercado St., Suite 270, Durango, CO 81301.
