Obituary for Shane Michael Gibson

Lifelong Durango resident, Shane Michael Gibson, met his heavenly father March 20th, 2013. He was only two months shy of his 22nd birthday. Shane was born to Michael and Debra Gibson on May 25th, 1991, in Durango at Mercy Medical Center. Shane worked in the family business at Appaloosa Trading Company. He was very helpful in developing the website, designing products, and sales. Shane’s infectious smile could bring happiness to anyone’s day. He was infatuated with popular culture, whether it be the newest Rihanna YouTube video or the “sweetest” new pair of jeans; the “freshest” shirt or the watch with the most “swagger”; if his hat matched his Pumps or his LeBron’s better. Music and clothes were his life; he would’ve gone crazy had he not been blessed to grown up a 90’s kid! For Shane, it was impossible to distinguish between friends and family. Simply put, they were all the same in his eyes. Everyone was his brother and everyone was his sister. He never ended a conversation without saying “Much love” or “I miss you cuz.” He may have acted as hood as Eminem, J. Biebs, and TuPac all put together but truth be told, deep-down, his heart was always pure and his soul as virtuous as possible. It was this unique buoyancy and compassion that his myriad of “siblings” loved and adored so much. Shane was so grateful to have grown up in the majestic San Juan Mountains; he loved his hometown, he loved his community. He was fortunate enough to live in the valley, only a stone’s throw away from Baker’s Bridge. “If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it”, he would say standing atop the moonlit bridge. He’d often stay until sunrise – there’s not a thing he loved more than watching the sunrise with his family. He viewed the start of each new day as a blessing, an opportunity to start over fresh. “Another day, another adventure”, he would proclaim with arms raised to the sky. Shane never overlooked the beauty in life, the beauty that each moment of each day possess’. His only concern was sharing it with those who meant the most to him. He brought so much happiness and laughter to his family with his constant rapping and joking. They couldn’t help but smile as he always said, “I love you.” Shane is survived by his Mother Deb Gibson, Father Michael Gibson, beautiful sister Jessica Gibson, Grandmother Charlotte Humiston, and grandparents Pete and Kathy Gibson. A Celebration of life will be held at the River Church, 860 Plymouth Dr. Durango, Co, Monday March 25th at 10:00 am. Please bring any photos you may have and any written messages you would like to privately share with Shane. The Reception will be held at the First Baptist church at 12:00. In Lieu of Flowers a non-profit account has been set up in Shane's name at First National Bank of Durango, to help support struggling youth in Durango. His legacy will be to help others with their struggles in life. Please leave your condolences online at www.hoodmortuary.com. God
Grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
