Obituary for
Ruben Eddie Garcia
Ruben Eddie Garcia, 63, died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Durango, Colorado.
He was born in Bayfield, Colorado on January 31, 1948 to Ruben and Irene Garcia. He lived in Bayfield most of his life, but recently moved to the Senior Center in Ignacio where he was closer to his daughters and other family.
Eddie graduated from Bayfield High School in 1966. He then attended Western Technical College in Denver, Colorado for one year. In 1967, he entered the United States Army where he served 2 1/2 tours in the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge, he held the rank of Specialist 5 of which he was very proud.
Eddie married Carmen "DD" Cordova on December 26, 1970. They divorced in 2002, but remained good friends.
Eddie worked as a heavy equipment operator until 1985 when he formed his "Family" owned company "Groundworks".
Eddie was a Catholic and was very proud of his 27 years of sobriety. He coached women and men’s softball for many years and loved the outdoors. Later in his life he enjoyed three grandchildren, riding his Harley Davidson, and social gatherings. Eddie's main goal in life was helping others get their lives on the right track. He expressed his feelings through painting. Most of all, he was there for his daughters’ life changing experiences, always saying "It is what it is, deal with it and move on".
He is preceded in death by his mother, Irene Garcia and father, Ruben Garcia.
Eddie is survived by his daughters: Dawn Rock (her husband Elmer Rock) and Andrea Garcia all of Ignacio. Siblings: Vicky Parrish of Bayfield, Steven Garcia of Navajo Lake, Carol Alexander of Durango, Michael Garcia of Ignacio, as well as three grandchildren.
Rosary will be held Wednesday, November 2nd at 7:00 P.M. at St. Ignatius Catholic
