Obituary for Mary G. Garcia
Long-time Durango resident Mary G. Garcia died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, in Durango. She was 81.
Mrs. Garcia was born February 12, 1930, in Dulce, N.M., to Estanislado and Pauline Archuleta. She grew up in Dulce and Lumberton. At the age of 12 she moved to Durango to the home she lived in for the rest of her life. She married Joseph S. Garcia June 16, 1955, in Aztec, N.M.
Joe worked days and Mary worked nights as a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital for 32 years until she retired in the early 90's. She then worked at Sonic for 10 years. She was a member of and regular attendee at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Mary most enjoyed caring for her family. She played bingo and other games with her family, visited the casino, and worked on puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Garcia, and sisters Barbara Archuleta and Paula McMorran.
She is survived by children: Randy Archuleta, Cedric Garcia, Dennis Garcia, Janice Garcia, Gerald Garcia, Gigi Cordary, and Jamie Garcia, all of Durango; 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by the following siblings: Carmen Rivas of San Jose, Calif.; Joanne Washburn of Springfield, Ore.; Sonny Archuleta of Brookings, Ore.; Penny Beyer of San Jose, Calif.; Sylvia Quensville of Kansas, Theresa Hood of San Jose, Calif.; Joe Archuleta of Santa Clara, Calif.; Carol Burmea of Pagosa Springs; Marty Archuleta of California, and Bobby Valdez.
A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on the following day, Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. also at Sacred Heart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Mercy, 1 Mercado St., Suite 270, Durango, CO 81301.
