Obituary for Mark Gallegos

Durango native Mark Gallegos passed away in his sleep Sunday, October 23, 2011, of heart failure at his home in Durango. He was 61.
Mr. Gallegos was born June 5, 1950, in Durango, the son of John and Matilda Gallegos. He graduated from Durango High School in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.
Mark married Julie Trujillo in 1982. The marriage later ended in divorce. He was a plumber before going to work for the water department with the City of Durango. He was with the city for 30 years.
Mark loved fishing and going to ball games with his sons. He also enjoyed joking around with his family and friends. He also loved going to the Snowdown Follies every winter. His family fondly states, "Mark will be greatly missed by all who loved him."
He is survived by his mother, Matilda Gallegos, son David Gallegos of Durango; son Matt (Rebekah) Gallegos of Farmington, N.M.; grandchildren Urijah, Kalylah, and Angel; sisters Juanita Gallegos, Alberta Martinez, and Cami Rae, all of Durango; sister Denise Martinez of Norwalk, Ohio; sister Mariellen Gallegos of Grand Junction, Colo.; brothers Bob Gallegos, Rick Gallegos, Andy Gallegos, and John Gallegos, all of Durango; brother Joseph Gallegos of Clyde, Ohio; brother Steve Gallegos of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and numerous aunts, uncle, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Hood Chapel from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2011, at Sacred Heart, with Father Joseph Gallegos as celebrant. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
