Juanita Gallegos

August 7, 1925 — March 15, 2021

Juanita Clara Gallegos was welcomed into Heaven on March 15, 2021 with all her family by her side. Juanita was born August 7, 1925 to Elias and Cirilia Romero in Altura, Colorado. She always had many stories to share about her childhood and her siblings. She was quite the worker, having many jobs throughout her lifetime, from dishwasher at Jan’s Café and the Elk Horn Café, to cleaning homes and many local businesses, including the Pharmacy Jackisch Drug. She put many miles on those feet of hers, walking everywhere she went. She loved talking on the phone with family and friends and would visit all her neighborhood friends, starting at one end of the block and ending up at the other end and she never showed up empty handed. There weren’t many people in Pagosa who didn’t know her, because she made friends everywhere she went. She was known as one of the most giving, kind hearted person around. She spent lots of time with her grandkids and great grandkids, they were her life, they gave her reason to live the life she did after retirement. She would walk them to the park, then it was time for ice cream, she was even content watching them play outside while she sat on the porch, as long as they were by her side, she was happy. They will forever have great memories of her as we all will.

As she got older, she loved to play cards, “Rummy” being her game of choice and of course she would always win. She loved going for rides in the car and it never mattered where we would take her, she always made sure the snacks were packed and that she had her Pepsi. Whatever we did, we never forget the Pepsi.

Juanita is preceded in death by her sons: Jerry Gallegos, Jimmy Gallegos and Julian Loomis; her brothers: Elias, Guy, Jenaro and Waldo Romero; her sisters: Fannie Romero, Pasqualita Maez, Viola Baca and Delfa Pineda.

Juanita is survived by her daugters: Ruthie (Levi) Montoya and Sophie (Danny) Jacobson; she also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Juanita loved everyone and was loved by so many in return, she will be missed by all.

Services will be held at a later date.
