Obituary for
Joan C. Fulton
Joan Claire Fulton, 84, died Friday, June 29, 2012 at home of natural causes in care of Hospice in Durango, Colorado. A Funeral Service will be Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Hood Mortuary Chapel. Father James Koenigsfeld of St. Columba Catholic Church will be officiating. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
Mrs. Fulton was born May 2, 1928 in Passaic, New Jersey the daughter of Thomas and Helen Brown. Joan was born and raised in New Jersey, where she lived most of her life. Joan graduated from high school and secretarial school in New Jersey. She worked for United Airlines in Newark, New Jersey until her marriage to William G. Fulton on May 14, 1955 in Nutley, New Jersey. She was introduced to her husband by her boss, who lost his dependable employee, but gained a sister-in-law. She moved to Vero Beach, Florida after the death of her husband, where she lived for 7 years. She lived in La Jolla, California for 5 years to be closer to her grandchildren. Five years ago, Joan moved to live with two of her daughter and families, in Durango, Colorado. While she missed the ocean she lived near her entire life, she loved the sunshine and blue skies of Colorado. She enjoyed spending time with her 5 grandchildren, swimming in the ocean, traveling and playing Scrabble and Bridge. She was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. Her favorite memories include her "girls trips" to houseboat at Lake Powell with her daughters. "Her family cherishes her kind heart, gentle spirit and sense of humor. She was a wonderful mother and sweet person," fondly recall her family.
Joan is survived by her four daughters: Mary Fulton and Kate Fulton, both of Durango, Julie Fulton of La Jolla, California, Nancy Fulton of San Francisco, California and five grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Fulton.
