Obituary for
Charles F. "Fritz" Foutz
After a two-year battle with cancer, Charles Frederick "Fritz" Foutz, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, left this world. A long-time rancher and outfitter, Fritz passed away July 11, 2012, at his home of 40 years in Oxford, Colo.
Fritz was born September 30, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio, to Charles Frederick and Florence Louise Foutz. After serving two years in the U.S. Army he attended Michigan State, graduating in 1961. He married Linda Ann Seidel August 20, 1960. In 1961, he and Linda moved to Durango, Colo., where he worked for the U.S. Forest Service until his retirement in 1983.
In 1972, Fritz started an outfitting business in the Hermosa area. His sons were involved from an early age, as was his good friend Ron Klatt. Many memorable hunting seasons have come and gone since then. His sons continue what Fritz began as Foutz and Sons Outfitting.
He will be remembered by friends and family as a tough, honest man who had a great love of the mountains. He was often on a horse or mule, and one could tell he felt at home there. Each of his children has been blessed with the memories of the time he took with them in his high country adventures. He instilled in them a love and respect for the high country, horses, mules, and wildlife. This love is only equaled by his love for his wife, Linda Ann Foutz, and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Foutz of Oxford, Colo.; his five children: Matt Foutz of Oxford, Mike Foutz of Bayfield, Colo., Mary Foutz of Spokane, Wash., Chuck Foutz of Bayfield, Teresa Foutz of Durango, Colo.; sister, Anne Lodge, of Camden, Ohio; brother, Joe Foutz, of Dayton, Ohio; and numerous grandchildren.
We love you, and may you be on the mountainside looking down on us for all of our years! You have made us proud!
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio, Colo. Interment of ashes will be at Oxford Cemetery.
