Marjorie Genevieve 'Marge' Forsythe was born in Kansas City, Kansas on May 23, 1921 to Matthew James Slater and Margaret Tora Paulsen, the youngest of 3 siblings. When she was 5 years old the family moved to a farm near Waverly, KS. She walked to country schools before entering high school and graduated in 1938.
Marge worked in restaurants after graduating. She met her future 'love' and they married in Octaco, KS in 1940. They lived in many states as Art was employed by a pipeline laying company during WW II.
Later they settled down in Hugoton, Kansas, raised their family of four boys: Gary, Larry, James and Rodney. Art was employed by a drilling company and after 10 years his company sent him to Farmington, NM, then to Bayfield, CO in 1952.
After moving to Bayfield, Marge worked at the school cafeteria and managed a small motel. She loved and grew beautiful flowers; also windmills and old barns. She loved to can and cook, follow their boys to ball games and write notes to family and friends. She was known for her pecan pie and sweet chunk pickles. She and her husband started helping at the Senior Center in the late seventies. Marge continued at the Senior Center until recently. She dearly loved her family and appreciated any favor done for her by friends and Church family.
Marge was preceded in death by oldest son, Gary, and husband, Art. She is survived by 3 sons: Larry Forsythe (Barbara), James Forsythe (Diane), and Rodney Forsythe (Keli); 7 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren.
A funeral Service will be held at the Bayfield Baptist Church on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 10 am and burial will follow at the Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield.
