Obituary for
Morris E. Ferguson
Morris Edward Ferguson, 75, died Sunday, May 27, 2012, in Durango, Colorado. Services will be held at a later date and cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango.
Mr. Ferguson was born September 29, 1936, in Grand Junction, Colo., the son of Frank and Irene Ferguson. He moved to San Diego, Calif., in 1953 where he worked construction and he met and married his wife, Margaret Fern Evans.
Morris was a passionate baseball manager and umpire for teams ages 8 to 19 – Pony, Colt and Little League, as well as girls fast pitch softball – Bobby Sox League. He moved to Durango in 1978 where he was a general contractor until he was forced to retire early due to health issues. After his move to Durango, he continued his love of baseball in coaching Babe Ruth Baseball, as well as participating in men's fast pitch softball.
His love of baseball encouraged him to be a huge fan of the Colorado Rockies from the first rumors of a professional Colorado franchise. Morris also had a love for hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiles, and was an active shooter and firearms enthusiast, including design and crafting of custom rifle stocks.
He had an i n f i n i t e amount of love for his family and it will continue for infinity.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Fern Ferguson of Durango; Children: Cynthia Lorene Eichthaler of Bayfield, CO, Teresa Lynne Probst of Durango, CO, and Wayne Edward Ferguson of Durango, CO; Grandchildren: Kayleigh Raye Probst of Boulder, CO, Elana Sue Probst of Durango, CO and Benjamin Nelson Chambers of British Columbia, Canada; Siblings: Mary Louise Houben of San Diego, CA, Sharon Jean Munson of Panguitch, UT, Robert Dean Ferguson of San Diego, CA, and Gwendolyn Kay Davis of Deltona, FL.
Morris was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Marie Hall and a brother, Gaillyn Ray “Pete” Ferguson.
