Obituary for
Donald Lee Farrow
Donald Lee Farrow, 74, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colo. The cause of death was pneumonia and Parkinson’s disease. Don was born September 26, 1938, in McNary, Ariz., the son of Edward and Martha Farrow. He grew up in the Phoenix area. He married Shirley Cook in Phoenix on December 27, 1957. Don worked at the Salt River Project in Arizona for 21 years as a troubleshooter before he retired in July 1994. He and Shirley moved to Durango in April 1995. Don was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was a registered Boy Scout for 15 years, serving as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster, and he was a member of the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America, the Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed carving wood and made life-sized birds and other animals. He was a fisherman and he worked on crewel and embroidery in his spare time. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan first and foremost, although he was known to cheer for the Broncos as long as they weren’t playing his beloved Cowboys. Shirley remembers that Don was quite shy when she first met him, but he related very well to people, particularly the scouts he mentored. Although he loved Arizona and thought the world ended at the state line, Shirley was able to convince him to move to Colorado when he retired. Don is preceded in death by twin granddaughters. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Durango; sons Danny Farrow of Bayfield and Chuck Farrow of Mesa, Ariz.; daughter Roxie (Rusty) Maynard of San Antonio, Texas; mother-in-law Gladys Cook, of Durango; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation will occur. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at Green Acres Memorial Park in Scottsdale, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Donald Farrow’s name to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.
