Obituary for
Paul R. Erwin
Paul Russell Erwin, 93, died Friday July 20, 2012 at his home in Durango, Colorado.
Mr. Erwin was born January 9, 1919, at LaVeta, Colo., son of Paul and Mildred Coe Erwin. They moved to Durango in the 1920’s, where he enjoyed camping and fishing in the mountains.
Paul served in the US Navy during WWII, from 1941 thru 1945, on the US DirectAM90/PC1594 as Motor Machinist 1st class, and Fireman 1st class.
On January 10, 1942 he married Eva B. Roberts. Upon his return from the war, he worked at the Tacoma Power Plant until 1949 when he returned to work at the Western Colorado Power Plant in Durango. He was with Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph, later Mountain Bell, for several years with one year in Anchorage, Alaska. He also spent many years doing carpenter work and fine woodworking.
Paul is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Theresa Erwin, granddaughters: Tracie Peterson and Paula Smith of Cheyenne, WY, great-grandchildren: Megan, Mark, and Michael Peterson and Kellie Smith of Cheyenne, WY, nephews: Jim Shaffer and Rick Shaffer and niece, Kim Jenkins, all of Colorado, and their families.
He was preceded in death by Eva B. Erwin, his wife of 69 years, Dale Leslie Erwin (son), Rocelle Shaffer (sister).
Paul’s wishes were to be cremated and buried with his wife and son at Crestview Cemetery, Durango. A memorial will be held at a later date.
