Grace Erikson was born March 25, 1915 and passed away on July 30, 2018.
A doctor with a black bag, driving a horse drawn buggy, went to Grace’s parents’ farm in Kersey, Colorado.
Grace left this world the way she wanted to, in her own bed, inside her “mud hut” as she called her home in Red Mesa with her cats and the people she loved beside her, calm and rested after 103 years.
The events that happened between the dates of her life are way too numerous to list here. Grace didn’t want any fuss made about her passing, but I will fuss a bit. She was a teacher of hundreds or even thousands of kids in the Durango area, Miller Junior High, Florida and Fort Lewis Mesa and many schools on the Navajo reservation. Hundreds of students and families knew Grace from these schools alone. So for these students that read this with a smile and those who read this with a frown: Grace was Grace and Miss Erikson was your teacher.
Grace will be laid to rest on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 10:00am at the Kline Cemetery.
