Obituary for
Felipe P. Enriquez
Felipe Pablo Enriquez passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Sunday evening December 2, 2012.
Felipe was born April 19, 1924, in Tiffany, Colo., to Felecita Lopez and Epifanio Enriquez. He was one of eleven children. He spent his early years with his grandfather, Faustine Enriquez, working the land. He married Ophelia Martinez October 8, 1943; she preceded him in death on December 15, 2011, after celebrating 68 years of marriage. In the early years of marriage, he worked for San Juan Lumber Company of Pagosa and Durango. He worked for various outfits, one of which cleared the runs at Purgatory resort. Following a move to Durango, he began work as a heavy equipment operator for La Plata County road and bridge department. After 20 years with the county, he retired to his Ignacio home, where he and his wife lived for many years.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ophelia, sons Eugene and Philip II, and by his loving daughter Kathryn. He is survived in death by his daughters Bernadette Lopez of Ignacio, Inez Ribera of Corvallis, Ore., and Grace Rodriguez of Durango; his sons Robert Enriquez of Grand Bay, Ala., and Donald Enriquez of Canon City, Colo.; by fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandkids, his brothers Frank Enriquez of Pahrump, Nev., and Porfirio Enriquez of Pueblo, Colo., and his sister Mary Rocha of Brighton, Colo.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, who enjoyed these activities most when he was with his sons. Felipe was a great man who will be truly missed.
There will be a Rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday, December, 9, 2012, at Sacred Heart Church in Durango. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2012, also at Sacred Heart Church. Father Larry Gallegos will be the celebrant. Arrangements are provided by Hood Mortuary.
