Elvera P. "Alvie" Paulek

Elvera "Alvie" Paulek passed away Sunday, February 23, 2025, at home, surrounded by family. She was 92 years old. A rosary will be recited on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 01, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery. 

Alvie was born February 6, 1933, to Dominick and Mary (Vitt) Piccoli in Durango, CO.She attended school in Silverton and Durango and graduated from Durango High School. She married Wm. Darrell Paulek on June 29, 1952 in Durango (Sacred Heart). Together, Alvie and Darrell owned and operated Paulek Refrigeration and Alvie also worked full time raising the family.

Alvie was active in the "Sage Hens" - a group of helpers for the La Plata County Extension. She was an active member of Sacred Heart. She loved camping and spending time with her family and travel, particularly to go watch the Broncos. With a family of 7 kids, she also was gifted in making her house a home where everyone was welcome, especially with her cooking. Sewing, quilting, canning, mushroom hunting and game hunting were all skills that she very much enjoyed.

She is survived by her children: Rhonda (Ray) Andrews, Nick (Jody) Paulek, Roxann Aulbert, Theresa (Bill) Waters, Renee (Stan) Reifschneider, Randy Paulek and Tyler Paulek; Grandchildren: Bryon, Michael, Kristi, Brady, Mindy, Tanner, Jason, Brad, Keegan, Tyson, Colton, Kaelen, Seth, Nicolas and Mitchell; 24 great-grandchildren and one bun in the oven; sister-in-law: Violet Piccoli; many nieces, nephews, extended family and wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Darrell; parents and siblings.
