Edith Johnston Baltzell passed away on August 24, 2024 in Live Oak, Texas. Edith was born in 1929 to James M. and Grace Engel Johnston in New Jersey. At age one they moved to Indiana where she was raised and graduated from South Side High School at Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1947. In 1948 she married Richard "Bo" Baltzel and they moved to El Paso, Texas, in late 1948. They spent 35 years there raising three children. While in El Paso, Edith was employed by the IBEW Local Union 583 for 20 years. Edith was also an avid bowler for 60 years and was still bowling into her golden years. In 1980, Bo and Edith moved to the Durango area, and in 1992, they began spending the winters in South Texas and the summers in the Bayfield area. When Bo passed away Edith moved permanently to South Texas.
She is survived by her two children, Darrell Steve and Laura Louise, six grandchildren: Steven, Catherine, David, Crystal, Amy, and Alyssa, one great-grandchild Kaelyn, six great-grandchildren, and also her sister Grace.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. Graveside services will be held at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango on Wednesday September 4th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bo Baltzell and a daughter, Jennifer Lee.
