Obituary for Lillian N. Duran

Lillian N. Duran, 71, died Friday, August 23, 2013 at home surrounded by family and friends. Miss Duran died of pancreatic cancer. Miss Duran was born November 17, 1941 in Ignacio, Colorado the daughter of Andres and Lucy Duran. The family lived in Durango, Colorado, and later moved to Ignacio. Lillian graduated from Ignacio High School and family stated she had 1 year of college, attending Ft. Lewis. Miss Duran never married and dedicated her life to family. She had an extensive banking career beginning at the age of 18 with the Bank of Ignacio. She was employed with most banks in Durango, the most recent with the Federal Land Bank. Lillian was a familiar face behind the counter and enjoyed her work and responsibility. Her most recent work, before retirement, was working as a clerk with the La Plata Assessor’s office.In Miss Duran’s early years, she loved the team play and rivalries of softball and making strikes in the local bowling alleys of Durango. Lillian loved the new Sky Ute Casino, and you could find her in front of the “Big Bertha” machine. Miss Duran is preceded in death by parents, Andres and Lucy Duran, brothers Orlando and Rudy Duran. She is survived by her life partner Martin Swanemyr of Durango, CO., brothers Andy Duran, Jr. of Port Angeles, WA., Chris Duran, Jack Duran and Mike Duran of Ignacio, Co., sisters Corinne Trujillo of Colorado Springs, CO., Martha Palomino of Moreno Valley, CA., Eileen Candelaria and Yolanda Duran of Ignacio, CO., numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation has occurred. A recitation of the Rosary will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 1:00 pm at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio, CO. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at St. Ignatius. Family asks, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Hospice of Mercy, 1Mercado St., suite 270, Durango, CO 81301.
