Obituary for
Jennie L. Duncan
Durango resident Jennie Lee Duncan went to meet Jesus on May 7, 2012, in Durango, Colo., at the age of 80. She died of an infection after she fell and broke her hip in April. She was in hospice care at Four Corners Rehab at the time of her death.
She was born February 2, 1932, in Montrose, Colo., to Oscar and Amelia Sittner. She was raised in Montrose and Ridgway, Colo.
Her friends said she loved her life on the ranch in Ridgway growing up and life in general. She was always telling stories of helping her father bring the cattle down off the mountain and helping him bring in the hay and other crops that he raised.
She lived in various places in Colorado, New Mexico, and Montana. She moved to Durango in the early 60’s with her son, Terry Nicks, and her parents. Mr. Sittner owned the Wagon Wheel Liquor store, and she worked there for many years. She also had businesses of her own at various times, and worked in quite a few jobs in the area. Her last job was at Peerless Tyre, where she worked in the 80's and 90's.
Her daughter said that not many people knew that she was an awesome yodeler. She used to yodel for her children and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Terry, and her brother, Edward Sittner.
She is survived by her daughter, Gay Lynn Easter, of Green Forest, Ark., nieces and nephews, many friends in the area, and friends that have moved away but kept in touch with her over the years.
Cremation has occurred and, at her request, no services will be held. At a later date her ashes will be spread in Montana, where she loved to fish and camp when her children were young.
