Donna Lee Dowler, 69, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colo. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Durango on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at 2:00 p.m.
Mrs. Dowler was born Oct. 9, 1943, in Red Cliff, Colo., the daughter of Loren and Margaret Anderson. Donna spent her early years in the small mining town of Leadville, Colo. She then attended and went to school in Telluride and then Durango. While in high school, she met her future husband, Ronald and they were married in Nov. 1961. They stayed in Durango for a short time but then moved to Denver and then to Frisco, Colo. Ron started to work for the Colorado Highway Department and the Dowler's moved back to the Durango area. Donna was a homemaker, raising the couple's two children. Donna also did work for Durango 9R as a bus driver. But she worked for North City Market as a checker starting in the early 1980's for many years and she also worked at Circle K and at the Red Mesa Bakery.
Donna loved animals—mainly dogs and cats. But her real passion was horses. She horseback rode any time she could get. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing and making crafts. She had collections of roosters and porcelain shoes and enjoyed watching the television shows: NCIS and CSI.
She is survived by Ron Dowler (husband) of Hesperus, Colo., Duane (Terri) Dowler (son and daughter in law) of Hesperus, Colo., Karey (David) DeMarte (daughter and son in law) of Denver, Colo., Brian and Daniel (grandchildren) and Margaret Anderson (mother) of Grand Junction, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her brother Kenneth Anderson, and her father.
