Obituary for Timothy R. Van Doren

Timothy R. Van Doren died from brain cancer on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at home in Bayfield. Tim was born August 2, 1948, in Van Nuys, Calif., the son of Donald and Helen Van Doren.

His wife Dawn said, "Tim was a great man who cared about everybody. He never had a bad word for any person, place or thing -- although he always said he hated Guam." He worked for General Motors before serving in Vietnam. Following his service, Tim returned to General Motors and later retired after 32 years. He and Dawn moved to their beautiful mountain homestead, where he worked on motorcycles, engines, or just about anything. “He loved his stuff,” said Dawn.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn Barrett, of Durango; brother, Mike Van Doren, and his wife, Darla, of Port Angeles, Wash.; sister, Donna Luckey, and husband, Jim Luckey, of Walls, Miss.; along with many nieces and nephews in California.

Dawn said, "Tim will be missed by so many friends we've met since moving here in 1998."

A celebration of Tim's life will be held 5-9 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012, at The Lost Dog Bar and Lounge at 1150 Main Ave. in Durango. The family asks friends to bring stories and pictures. Honorary pallbearers for the celebration include special friends Robert Middleton, Robert Bitner, Michael Awe, Steph Lazare, Natambu Obleton, Jacob Bleth, Aaron Bomheim, Nick Walton, Jerry Olivier, Greg Alsum, Chris Stanton, and Richard Benzie.
