Robert Doney

Robert Lee Doney, 70, passed away quietly, Saturday, March 26, 2011, in Durango, Colorado. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango. Private services will be held at a later date. Interment of ashes will be in Deadwood, South Dakota.

Mr. Doney was born January 19, 1941 in Deadwood, South Dakota the son of Rodney and Edith (Reinke) Doney. Mr. Doney grew up and attended elementary, jr. high and high school in Deadwood, South Dakota and graduated high school from there in 1960. Shortly afterward, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, a career which would span for 22 1/2 years. Mr. Doney was stationed in Rota, Spain, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and California as well as many other places sailed to around the world. In the early Fall of 1984, Mr. Doney retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant. His wife at the time, Debora, was still serving in the Navy and was stationed in El Centro, CA, up to Whidbey Island, WA and down to San Diego, CA so he remained by her side for this period of time. It wasn't until 1999, when Mr. Doney moved to the Bayfield area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching game shows and the San Diego Chargers football team.

He is survived by Michael L. Doney (son) of Bayfield, CO, Drew Taylor (son) of Grand Junction, CO, Robert R. Doney (son) of Bayfield, CO, Linnea L Doney (daughter) of Pensacola, FL, Ryan D. Doney (son) of Bremerton, WA, Crystal L. Doney (granddaughter) , Jennifer L. Doney (granddaughter) , Shilo Mossburger (granddaughter) of Bayfield, CO, Rhiannon L. Doney (granddaughter) of Oak Harbor, WA, Hazel Doney (granddaughter, expected in May) of Bremerton, WA, Cherie Doney (daughter-in-law) of Bremerton, WA, and Peggy Mossburger (daughter-in-law) of Bayfield, CO.
