Wallis F. Derujinsky
Wallis Fairfax “Wally” Derujinsky, 72, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 in Durango, Colorado. A gathering of friends will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at For The Birds, 1560 East 2nd Avenue, Durango.
Wallis was born July 27, 1938 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of G. Wallace and Dorothy Gault. Wallis graduated from Nyack High School in Nyack, N.Y. She worked as a runway model for Ellen Tracy and Sandra Sage.
Wallis was married to Gleb Derujinsky in 1972 in Manhattan. The couple moved to Durango in 1976 and they opened the “One Of A Kind” Jewelry store on 6th Street. She taught skiing for women’s classes at Purgatory for many years – she even was asked to design the logo for the ski classes. Wallis also worked part-time at “For The Birds” in Durango having retired just a few months ago to focus on a mystery novel she was writing and cataloguing her Gleb’s photography and artwork.
Wallis’ passion was photography (from Gleb’s influences) and writing.
She is survived by a sister, Toni Assael of Winter Park, Florida, and other extended family, as well as her beloved dog, Red Rock.
