Obituary for
LeRoy Percy DeLisle
Durango resident LeRoy Percy DeLisle died of cancer Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango. He was 86.
Mr. DeLisle was born to Harold LeRoy and Gladys Enger DeLisle on March 29, 1927, in Plainfield, N.J. He graduated from Metuchien High School in Metuchien, N.J., in 1945 and later attended two years of college in upstate New York.
Shortly after high school graduation, Mr. DeLisle served in the Army with the 18th Infantry in Germany, arriving about a month before Victory in Europe Day. He held the rank of private first class upon his discharge on Feb. 9, 1947.
Mr. DeLisle never married.
He owned his own color fabrication business in New Jersey, creating colors to be used in fiberglass and plastics for boats and cars. At age 50, he retired and moved to Pagosa Springs, then to Durango.
Mr. DeLisle enjoyed reading, bowling, golf and the stock market. He traveled extensively and loved to travel by train. Upon the death of his father, Mr. DeLisle took care of his mother, and they loved to travel together.
In recent years, his neighbors and friends Candise and Mike Griswold helped take care of him.
No immediate family survives. Mr. DeLisle is survived by numerous first and second cousins.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 East Third Ave. Chaplain Earl Caudill will officiate. Burial will take place at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
