Obituary for Clarence H. Davis

Clarence Howard Davis, 87, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colorado. A graveside service will be Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bayfield Cemetery.

Mr. Davis was born February 7, 1925, in Coolidge, Kansas, the son of Howard and Lily Davis. Clarence grew up and attended schools in Coolidge. In his late teens and early 20's, he was working on the family farm - tending to cattle, sheep, race horses and harvesting wheat and milo. The family moved to a ranch on Butte Creek in Colorado. Clarence continued to ranch and farm and it was there that he met Donna Davis. They were married on January 2, 1948 in Raton, NM. They continued to live on that ranch and began to raise their family there. Here again, Clarence grew farm grains and tended cattle. In 1967, the family moved to another ranch in the Durango area near the Florida River. For the next 13 years, they grew hay and in 1979, Clarence "retired" and the family moved to Bayfield. During all these years, Clarence enjoyed 4 wheeling, hunting, horseback riding, reading and playing and watching basketball. While in the area, Clarence sported with a town team for 10 years (1967-1977). The team was called, "K&B." He thoroughly enjoyed all his years with his beloved family.

He is survived by Donna Lee Davis (wife) of Bayfield, DeEtte (Russ) Hobden (daughter and son in law) of Lamar, CO, Denten (Debbie) Davis (son and daughter in law) of Bayfield, Michael (Brenda) Davis (son and daughter in law) of Bayfield, Leland (René) Davis (son and daughter in law) of Rock Springs, WY, Dallas Davis (son) of Ignacio, Darin (Renee) Davis (son and daughter in law) of Elizabeth, CO, 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren that are on the way, Edna Belle Cook (sister) of Johnson, KS and numerous nieces, nephews, cousin and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
