David Stoller Obituary

David Benjamin Stoller, 35, of Bayfield, CO, formerly of Roanoke, IL, passed away at 10:10p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Durango, CO following a brief illness, surrounded by the family he loved. David was born October 28, 1989 to Edward and Boni (Hodel) Stoller in Peoria, IL.

He is survived by his paternal grandmother, Barbara Stoller of Roanoke; his parents, Ed and Boni Stoller of Bayfield, CO; one sister Kristi (Joel) Leman of Ignacio, CO; one brother Jared (Rebekah) Stoller of Littleton, CO; seven nieces and nephews whom he loved, Gonzalo (Ana Sofia) Leman of Aurora, CO, Soraya, Selah, and Sierra Leman all of Ignacio, CO, and Ridge, Lark, and Linden Stoller all of Littleton, CO; his great niece and nephew, Lucas and Leah Leman of Aurora, CO; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Stoller; maternal grandparents, William and Betty Hodel; paternal grandfather, Richard Stoller; and two cousins, Brian Hodel and Jacob Hodel.

David lived all his growing up years in Roanoke. He graduated from Metamora High School in 2008. He worked briefly for Jim Hodel Inc. where he loved his coworkers as much as his work. In 2011, he moved with his family to Colorado.

David was a lover. He loved everyone he ever met; he knew no enemy. He loved seeing people, whether at church or out and about, and he had a hug or a hand squeeze ready for everyone. He especially loved watching his nieces and nephews and would often comment with a shake of his head, “Crazy, crazy, crazy!” For many years, he spent much of his time building LEGOs, and amassed quite a collection, until his physical limitations became prohibitive. He also enjoyed coloring pictures, playing games on his tablet, or cheering on the Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rockies, and Denver Broncos.

Most of all, David loved Jesus, and he declared his commitment through baptism in 2017. Throughout his life, he often commented on how much God loved him, how God had purposely made him just the way he was, and how ready he was for Heaven and a new body. His simple, sweet, innocent, and yet absolute faith in the God who made him was extraordinary. He also had a strong sense of justice and was quick to point out when things were not as they should be.

Like his older brother, David’s physical condition often limited his ability to participate and communicate in various situations. But his unconditional love, patient endurance, and boundless joy testify of the Spirit living within. Your passing, sweet David, leaves a huge void in our hearts and home, but we can’t help but rejoice in knowing that you are with your Jesus and you have finally got the new body that you so looked forward to.
