Richard Paul Curtis
Richard Paul Curtis, 77, died Monday, December 02, 2013, peacefully at home in Durango, Colorado. Mr. Curtis was born November 17, 1936 in Lawrence, Kansas the son of Paul and Evelyn Curtis. He grew up in Lawrence until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at 17 years old. He served in Europe during the Korean War for 6 years and was honorably discharged. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in psychology from San Francisco State. He was married to Mary Ann “Suzi” Hannan on April 3, 1970. His particular skill set was in horticulture. Richard was involved in the revitalization of the Farmers Market in Durango as well as a volunteer at the Durango Nature Center. He helped also organize and develop the Bayfield Farmers Market. Richard worked at Kmart until it’s closing and then at Home Depot Garden Center until his retirement. He developed a passion and calling towards use of indigenous plants and the Hopi Native culture. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann “Suzi” Curtis of Durango, his Mother, Evelyn Mae Curtis of Williamsburg, VA, Brother, Delbert Curtis, of Williamsburg, VA, Sons: Jody, Jeffrey, and James Curtis, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Curtis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1800 E 3rd Ave # 101, Durango, CO 81301.
