Mary Craig

August 23, 1922 — June 3, 2022

Mary K. Craig passed away at her home in Bondad, Colorado on June 3, 2022.

Mary Kathryn Frost was born in Bayfield, Colorado on August 23, 1922, the 2nd child of 7, to Mary Ann and Austin Parsons Frost. She graduated from Durango High School in 1940, then moved to her parent's home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she attended the University of New Mexico briefly and worked. Mary K. had previously met her husband-to-be, Lawrence Craig in Durango while boarding with his mother and sisters. They were married on May 8, 1943 while Lawrence was serving his country in the Army Air Corps. They bought their farm in Bondad in 1945, after the war. In 1959, the family moved to Gallup, New Mexico, then to Albuquerque in 1967. In 1977, when the youngest had graduated from high school, Mary K. and Lawrence, and their youngest son, moved back to the ranch to "retire". When Mary K. first moved to Bondad in 1945, she was the youngest homemaker in the community. When she passed at 99, she was the oldest. Mary K. liked to bake, and her family enjoyed her pies and homemade bread. She was an expert seamstress who, for many years, made most of her daughters' clothing. She also taught them to sew. She enjoyed gardening, watching birds, making crafts, crochet, reading and jigsaw puzzles, and especially, family games. Mary K. and Lawrence travelled by car throughout the country, visiting most states and many relatives. Mary K. loved to laugh and kept her sense of humor to the end of her life. She will be remembered for many happy times and will be missed by her extensive family.

Mary K. is survived by one brother, Lloyd Frost; 6 children, Mary Lu (and Brent) Dietzman, Herb Craig, Kathy (and Dave) Torrez, Susan Evans, Elizabeth Craig and Robert (and Paula) Craig; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 19 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
