On March 2nd, 2024, Corey Lloyd Richards was called home to eternal rest after 38 years of life. Corey was the son of Debra Watts and William Richards, Sr. and was born on December 6, 1985.
Corey grew up in Ignacio, Colorado and he attended the Ignacio Schools. This is where he completed his high school education. He attended online classes at Adam State University in Alamosa, Colorado for business.
Corey's mother told him "Monday don't grow off trees! You want things in life, get a job!" Corey worked all through High School. He would hold many positions with Pino Nuche, in the Food and Beverage Department as a busser, waiter, hostess, cashier, and moving his way to a manager position. Corey did all of this while being a high school student and graduating one year early.
Corey worked at the Southern Ute Housing Authority and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe under the Interim Program in Durango, Colorado. Corey then worked as a Home Health Aide taking care of his mother.
Growing up, Corey was never to far from his mother. Corey was a Mama's Boy as he was the baby of the family. Corey enjoyed gambling at the casino with his mother. Anytime his hands would itch he would say, "I will be right back!" Whenever Corey won big or small, we all won. "He would take the entire family out", said his sister Lorena.
Corey enjoyed spending time with his nephews and nieces, they could never do no wrong in his eyes. His youngest niece, Bunny Ree, held a very special place in his heart. She was his best friend, his heart, and his world.
Corey believed heavily in the catholic religion. He was apart of the Carmalita's at St. Ignatius Church. He also believed in his traditional Ute culture and enjoyed watching his two nephews sing at Bear Dance and loved watching his other nephews and nieces dance. He looked forward to Bear Dance to see his old friends and enjoy a good Lemonade, curly fries, bomb frybread, and cotton candy.
Corey enjoyed watching his two nephews play sports and cheer them on. Anything his nieces wanted he would get for them.
Corey loved his shows. He loved the Golden Girls, Real Housewives, and The Middle. He loved a good old-fashioned home cooked meal followed by a cigarette. Corey enjoyed traveling with his sister, Lorena, and her kids. Corey's hobbies were scrapbooking, coloring, drawing, writing poems, and shooting guns.
