Obituary for
Conrad C. Copeland
Conrad Grant Copeland, 86, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, in Durango, Colo.
Mr. Copeland was born December 25, 1924 in Lockhart, Texas, the son of Chester and Pearl Copeland. He grew up in Lockhart, and he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon his discharge, he enrolled at Texas A & M, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. He married Joy Dollahite after a honeymoon in Mexico, he began working at Frostex Foods in Austin, Texas. After he retired six years ago, he moved to Durango to be closer to his family.
Mr. Copeland enjoyed playing golf and spending time at the casino. He was an avid fisherman and was proud of having caught the biggest sailfish for the month during one of his many business trips. He took his first skydive after watching George H. W. do the same. Unfortunately, he insisted that his son accompany him. He traveled all over Europe, most notably in Spain, Yugoslavia and Germany. He enjoyed new experiences -- even bullfighting during trip to Spain.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joy. He is survived by his son Richard Copeland of Durango, Colo., two granddaughters, and many beloved family members and friends.
Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango. Private family services will be held in Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society District II - Southwest Colorado, 1800 E. 3rd Ave Suite 101, Durango, CO 81301.
