Lawrence Connolly

January 6, 1957 — July 6, 2015

Lawrence T (Larry) Connolly was born January 6, 1957 in Oakland, CA to Gerald L and Mary Norma Connolly. Grew up in Oakland Ca, and graduated from Skyline High School in Oakland in 1974. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying rock climbing and hiking through Yosemite National Park as a young man. Moved to Idaho continuing his love of the outdoors and enjoyed climbing and skiing around the Rocky Mountains of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. In later years, he and his wife Stacey became avid SCUBA divers, traveling around the islands of the Caribbean photographing and enjoying the wonders of the coral reefs. His beautiful daughter Savana was born in 1989 and recently graduated from Ft Lewis College in Durango as a Business major. Larry graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1982. He moved to Denver Colorado to work in Surveying in 1983. In 1992 Larry moved to Durango and co-founded Animas Surveying and Mapping with his partner David Frienmuth. In 2007 he was appointed by the Governor of Colorado to the State Board of Engineering, Architects, and Surveyors where he served until his death. He was also the La Plata County Surveyor being appointed first in 2000 and re-elected 4 times since.
He is survived by his loving wife Stacey DeJong, his daughter Savana Connolly of Loveland, and his brother Gary (Linda)Connolly of Connecticut, Nieces Nicole Connolly of Newport, NC, Alyssa Madden of Brentwood, CA, Christina Connolly of Westerly, RI, Nephews Zach Connolly of Portland, OR and Tim Daugherty of Reno, NV. Grandma Hop, Father-In-Law Henry and Mother-In-Law Nadine DeJong. Step children, Beth (Dale) Gates, Matt (Chelsea) Alles, Luke (Brooke) Alles, grandchildren, Daisja, Gabriela, Gisele & Jackson Gates, Hayden and McKenna Alles, soon to arrive Isabelle Alles.
Celebration of his life will be Friday July 10th at 10AM at the Elk’s Park, 349 CR 240A in Durango. In honor of Larry please wear yellow or something bright with shorts and flip flops…it is what he loved to wear!
