Ocie Lorene Coffell (Cooper)
Ocie Lorene Coffell, 92, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, in Durango, Colo. Memorial services will be held at Hood Mortuary Chapel in Durango on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. and Chaplain Earl Caudill will officiate. Mrs. Coffell was born January 18, 1921, in Peach Orchard, Ark., the daughter of Riley and Florence Cooper. She was the second of seven children. Ocie moved with her family to Phoenix in 1947. She met John Coffell at Peach Orchard in 1944, and they were married in Phoenix on October 12, 1947. Ocie and her parents established a restaurant on Central Avenue in Phoenix called the E&R Cafe. Together she and John had a daughter, Patricia. They traveled Arizona as a result of John’s career in highway construction, until his retirement. She was an avid fisherman, and she loved the outdoors and her flowers. During retirement, they resided in Mesa, Ariz., until they moved to Durango in 2005 to be closer to their family. She is survived by her husband, John Coffell, a daughter, Patricia Haneman, and son-in-law, Mike Haneman, all of Durango; two grandsons: Jake Haneman of Apple Valley, Minn., and Seth (Spouse: Starlyn) Haneman of Wellington, Colo., three great-grandchildren: Jude, Novella and Charlotte Haneman, three siblings: Wanda Ragsdell of Durango, Jesse Cooper of Seymour, Mo., and James Cooper of Tucson, Ariz., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three siblings and her parents.Monetary donations may be sent to a local hospice.
