Christopher Lewis Block

March 29, 1984 — August 28, 2024

Durango

Christopher Lewis Block died on August 28, 2024 at his residence in Durango from medical complications following a recent illness. Chris was born in Long Beach, California on March 29, 1984 and grew up there as well as in Seabrook, Texas where he finished high school in 2002. He attended Fort Lewis College for two years and made Durango his regular home from then on.

Chris is survived by his parents Thomas Block and Jean Ashmore, brother Nicholas Block, nephews Darwin and Tristan Block, uncles James (Terese Allen) Block, Wayne Block, Michael (Dana) Ashmore, and aunt Carolyn (Mark) Roberts.

An owner of the former Three Peaks Deli and Grill in Durango, Chris loved cooking for other people and worked for many years in the food industry at various locations in town. Most recently he enjoyed working at the La Plata County Humane Society with their dogs.

Chris loved spending time in the mountains around Durango whether that was strolling through the woods, hunting mushrooms, or sleeping in a hammock under the stars. His love of the outdoors began in his youth when camping and traveling with his family.

Chris was a kind hearted, generous man, a lover of dogs and other animals, and a wonderful uncle to his nephews Darwin and Tristan. He will be greatly missed and remembered with love and affection by those who were fortunate to have known him.

A gathering of remembrance for Christopher Block will be held the afternoon of Monday, November, 11, 2024 at Hood Mortuary, 1262 E. 3rd Avenue in Durango; contact the Mortuary for details.

Charitable donations in Chris’ memory can be made to the La Plata County Humane Society, 1111 S. Camino Del Rio, Durango, CO 81303.
